Early morning is the best time for established turf irrigation. Deep and infrequently is still the best way to irrigate. Measure your output to determine how long it takes to put out ½” of water and think of irrigating in ½” increments as opposed to time. Late afternoon and evening irrigation should be avoided as this practice promotes disease outbreaks. Sod should be irrigated several times a day for the first few weeks but it is still a bad idea to water late into the evening.
