Lawn Maintenance - 3 Tips for a beautiful lawn

Lawn maintenance performed properly will leave you with a healthy, beautiful lawn.

As summertime is quickly approaching, yard maintenance will be taking center stage. To help keep your lawn lush and healthy here are three tips to follow.

1. Mowing: As soon as the lawn turns green in the spring you can mow. Make sure that the blade is sharp. A dull blade will damage the grass blades. Set the mower to 1”. Leave the clippings to add nitrogen into the soil. If the grass is too long and creates clumps, remove the excessive clippings.

2. Irrigation: You should always water in the early morning hours. It is necessary for the sun to help dry the puddled water to prevent fungus from growing.  A long infrequent soaking is better than frequent short watering. If possible set your irrigation system on an automatic timer to prevent missing a watering.

3. Fertilization: You should have your soil tested to determine what the soil needs are. Fertilization is necessary to keep the lawn healthy. Make sure that you are following the manufacturer’s directions. A spreader is necessary to be sure that the fertilizer is spread evenly.
