Proper lawn maintenance for new sod will ensure a lush, green lawn.

New sod is a pretty substantial investment, but certainly one that is well worth it. A lot of time and hard work goes into laying sod, so it’s important to properly maintain it to ensure it has what it needs to flourish.

If you are laying your own sod, make sure you’re following the instructions completely. It is vital you start with a good foundation. Take the time necessary to properly prepare the soil and when you are finished laying the sod, roll it with a roller to make sure there is good contact with the nutrient rich soil.

Once you are finished, you can begin to maintain your new sod. Begin watering the new sod within half an hour of the installation. You should water it with a good soaking of at least 1”. The new sod should be watered daily for the first couple of weeks.

When the roots have firmly taken hold, you can cut back the watering and continue to water less frequently.
