Planting sod is easy to do if you have the right tools.

If you are getting ready to purchase and lay new sod for your lawn, make sure that you are completely prepared before you begin planting sod. Having your tools purchased or rented before you start will make the entire process much smoother.

Here is a list of tools you will need:
• Wheelbarrow
• Gloves
• Shovels
• Rakes
• Sod Knife
• Fertilizer
• Top Soil
• Roller

Preparing your soil for the sod should be done before you sod is delivered. You will first need to remove the existing lawn and any weeds and debris. Use a hard rake to rake through to be sure you have all of the debris removed. Order enough top soil that will cover the entire area at least six inches deep. Spread the top soil evenly over the area. Add a starter fertilizer into the soil and turn it in using a shovel. Roll the top soil and ensure that it is level.

You’re now ready to lay your sod. Lay each piece end to end. Use the sod knife to cut pieces to fit. You should cut the sod from the back. Continue each line of sod until you are finished. Roll the surface with the roller again. All that’s left is to clean up, water your sod and watch it grow.
