Sod installation should be done during optimal growing conditions.

Sod installation is a big project and the investment can be costly. It’s an outlay of both time and money that will greatly pay off and reward you with a lush, green and healthy lawn for years to come.

While sod can be laid during most times of the year it is important to give your new sod every advantage to establish a strong root system. Therefore, the best time to lay new sod is during the spring so that your sod has plenty of opportunity to grow.

You can also lay sod in the early summer months, but try to avoid the hottest months of summertime. Because of the extreme heat of summer it is suggested you water down the soil before laying the sod.

The fall is also considered by many to be a good time to lay new sod. Make sure you give the sod plenty of time to become established before the first frost arrives.

It is possible to lay sod during the early winter months before the ground has begun to freeze.
