Sod Maintenance - Tips for Easy Sod Management
All homeowners dream of one day having a beautiful, lush lawn. With a little bit of maintenance, you can have the lawn of your dreams. Follow these tips for easy sod maintenance to help keep your lawn hardy and healthy.
- Watering: When it comes to watering, less frequent and longer soaking works best. Water early in the morning so the sun can begin to work its magic on the excess. Longer soaking helps with healthier roots so the sod stays healthy.
- Mowing: Mowing can be done once a week during the heavy growth season. Avoid scalping the sod by cutting it too short. You can leave the grass clippings to help feed the lawn. Always use a sharpened blade when mowing.
- Fertilizing: Fertilizing should be done every six to eight weeks during the peak growing times. Use a pre-emergent herbicide once in the spring and again in the fall to help keep weeds from taking hold. Make sure you are spreading the fertilizer evenly using a rotary spreader. Follow all of the directions indicated on the products you are using. And make sure you are using the correct fertilizer for your particular lawn.
